Individual muscle activity

Surface EMG captures the timing and relative amplitude of electrical activity associated with activation in a selected muscle.

Muscles are activated through electrical signals from the nervous system. Surface electromyography captures this activity at the skin surface.

Skinetix integrates EMG sensors into the garment at selected anatomical locations, measuring individual muscle activity during movement. EMG does not directly measure force, tissue damage, injury risk or readiness.

What does EMG measure, and what are its limits?

Electromyography (EMG) captures the electrical activity associated with muscle activation. Skinetix integrates EMG sensors into the garment to measure individual muscles during movement.

Why does movement context matter?

Inertial movement sensors capture acceleration and rotation of body segments during the exercise. Synchronising movement and muscle activity relates individual muscle contribution to specific actions and phases within the movement.

How important is sensor positioning?

Measuring individual muscles depends on correct anatomical positioning. Sensors must sit over the intended muscles, remain stable during movement and keep reliable contact. This garment-based approach is designed to make measurement more repeatable and practical.

How is Skinetix bringing muscle measurement into the field?

Traditional EMG measurement often requires specialist placement, controlled environments and extensive preparation. Skinetix is being developed to bring individual muscle measurement into regular sports and rehabilitation workflows, combining measurement quality with a garment designed for real-world environments.

How should Skinetix information be interpreted?

Skinetix provides additional muscle-activity and movement information for qualified professionals. It does not diagnose injury, prescribe treatment, predict injury or independently determine return-to-sport readiness.
